Vineyard & Winery Team
Our Vineyard Team begins work in early spring. Grapevines are pruned and shaped until harvest in August. September is our busiest month in both the vineyard and winery, as we begin to realize the character and quality of the next vintage. The team moves inside as winemaking takes the forefront during the winter months. Wines finish fermentation, settle, and age. We experiment with blends and once the perfect complexity and balance are achieved, the wines are bottled.
Tasting Room Team
Tasting Room staff are here to help you enjoy the wines of Famous Fossil Winery and to learn about the activities of the business. Many of our staff work in the tasting room and also help with harvest and assist with bottling. Of course, they all enjoy wine!
Meet The Makers
Wine is a natural fit for Ken's personality and skills - his ease with chemistry, his farming success and his enjoyment of food, wine and friends. Ken farmed in Iowa for many years, certifying his crops and livestock as organic in 1987. Ken first made wine in his college days and began studying in earnest nearly 20 years ago. His philosophy of natural winemaking is apparent in all of the Famous Fossil wines.

Pam is the guiding force behind the atmosphere and activities of Famous Fossil Winery. A career in environmental health and preventive medicine led her to a stint as director of the Organic Agriculture Program in the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship where she met Ken. Her mother told Pam that she was born laughing and that's just what she likes everyone to do. What do you call a fossil who doesn't like to work? Lazy bones!
